I took my mountain bike on a 5 hour drive to Mammoth Mountain from Los Angeles, even hitting speeds of 80+. The rack held up very well. I prefer the fork mounted design of this rack because it seems like a more secure way to mount the bike. It is definitely a space saver. Simple installation and works well, even on my 12-foot ceiling. I encountered two drawbacks which could have been better. I bought two hoists and both cords had frayed spots which indicates to me some manufacturing defect. The other issue I had was the quality of the ...screw heads...they were too soft. When screwing them into the joist gets tough, the "plus sign slot" on the philips screw head would get damaged. Two got damages bad enough that I had to unscrew and throw them out. I bought two of these for my garage and it worked as pictured. I was surprised how easy it was to pull the bike up to the ceiling. I was worried my wife would have a hard time using it but she had no problems. I don't have any kids but I imagine this would be perfect for kids bikes.

...Keep in mind that when you install this it should be screwed into a rafter. If the rafters run in the wrong direction simply by a board at your local hardware store so you can run the boards perpendicular to the rafters which will provide an excellent place to screw the lift to.
