I read the reviews before buying and I thought, "hey, this sounds like it works." Anyway, I worked great when I was sewing my khaki pants. However, with my jeans, the machine couldn't sew over the sides because it was thick, so it skipped the side and continue sewing. Aside from not sewing... the sides, it worked well. It is kind of noise but it works. Its good for fixing things and sewing little things. Overall, I like it. I got this as a Christmas present for my mother. She had formerly used a 27 year old machine but picked it right up and after reading the manual for 5 minutes, started sewing. She was happy that it had a button holer function. The controls seem easy enough and the design is nice. Recommended Less

In many ways it is similar to the White 1740 sewing machine. It is perfect for the beginner with easy to understand booklet. I sent this to my sister who hasn't sewn in maaanny years and she loves it. Less

It's really quiet. It's a little awkward having the top spool horizontal, but it works. It's a little heavier than I expected, but that makes it more sturdy. It has a little storage compartment that's really convenient and a nice way to keep everything in one place. It has a little lever for reverse... sewing, which I really like.
